About us
Funky Bhangra is a new restaurant that has now opened in Posthus Mathöll in the center of Reykjavík. The place is Yesmine Olsson's brainchild and long-awaited dream, but in the cooking she allows herself to mix Indian spices and Scandinavian traditions. The result is unconventional, exotic but above all tempting food! Funky Bhangra offers beautiful, tasty food and drinks to match.
All are welcome!
What is Funky Bhangra?
Bhangra is an energetic joyous dance from the Punjab region of India and Pakistan that has been danced for centuries, e.g. to celebrate the harvest. Bhangra is also a refreshing musical trend that has developed slowly over the past few decades. Both the dance and the music have featured prominently in Bollywood films of recent years.
Funky because we're not doing anything traditional! Funky Bhangra is not exactly an Indian restaurant, but a funky mix of spices, jolts and vibes!
Indian flavors with a Scandinavian twist
Yesmine Olsson is the owner and creator of Funky Bhangra. Yesmine was born in Sri Lanka but grew up in Sweden and worked in Denmark and Great Britain before setting down roots in Iceland over 20 years ago. Yesmine has had a huge interest in food and cooking from a young age, not least from her childhood and has worked as a passionate chef for years. She has held numerous cooking courses, staged Bollywood shows with singing, dancing and food parties, been a guest chef for many of the country's leading companies, published four cookbooks, some of which have received international awards, and had her own cooking show on RÚV. Yesmine can dance Bhangra!
